Cycle from Knysna to Cape Town - The route summary

Experience the most popular and iconic cycle tour from Knysna to Cape Town!  Experience the original world known Cape Epic route. Cycle from Inn to Inn with little transfers. From the Indian Ocean, through indigenous forests on the coast to ostrich farms in the dry Little Karoo, from the solitude of the Langeberg Mountains, passing the wine regions on the way to Cape Town. On this tour we cycle through the Western Cape Province, which is perfect for being explored by bike due to it‘s unique, yet varied landscape.

TOUR ITINERARY

Day 1. Bike tour Knysna – George
After arriving in Knysna, you will be welcomed by your tour guide and meet your fellow travellers. With a final check of our bikes, the cycling begins to George. We cycle along the Old Cape road via Homtini Pass, along the Lake District to George. We will stay in a comfortable guesthouse with a view of the Outeniqua Mountains.

Day 2. Bike tour George – Oudtshoorn
We cycle inland over the historic Montagu Pass (2440 ft.). We will be rewarded with fantastic views back to the coast. The landscape rapidly changes, from the evergreen coast we make our way inland to the Erica's and succulent overgrown Little Karoo. We cycle through, Horse Gorge, before relaxing our tired legs at a pool on an ostrich farm in the afternoon. We will stay in a comfortable guesthouse.

Day 3. Bike tour Albertinia to Riversdale
After driving with our bus to the nearby Cango Caves and on to visit an ostrich farm, we continue to the small town of Albertinia. From here we will cycle along the Langeberg Mountains and then through the hilly farm land to Riversdale where we will stay in a comfortable guest house.

Day 4. Bike tour Riversdale – Swellendam
We cycle further along the Langeberg Mountains on the mountainous tracks to Heidelberg and then mainly on asphalt onto Swellendam. The third oldest town in South Africa lies idyllically in front of the Langeberg Mountains. We will sleep in a guest house in the historical part of town.

Day 5. Bike tour Swellendam – Robertson
We cycle through the wide Bree River Valley, over Bonnievale, through vineyards until we reach Robertson where we will spend the next night in a charming guest house.

Day 6. Bike tour Robertson – Wellington
In front of the impressive backdrop of the Hex River Mountains, we cycle in the Breede River Valley to Worcester, and pass many wine estates before reaching the idyllic Bainskloof Gorge, where we cycle up the Bainskloof Pass (1800 ft.). After a long descent, with get rewarded with amazing views out over the Cape Wine land, we reach the wine making town of Wellington, where we will stay in comfortable chalets.

Day 7. Bike Tour in the Cape of Good Hope
In our vehicle we transfer to the Boulders Penguin colony in Simons Town. Afterwards we continue onto the Cape of Good Hope. We unload the bikes and cycle on the other side of the Cape Peninsula, along the Atlantic, back to Cape Town. The coastal route over Chapman‘s Peak and Hout Bay is truly one of the most breathtaking stretches in South Africa. It is not a coincidence that the annual Argus Bike Race, with over 35,000 participants, takes place here.

Day 8. Today we will transfer you to Cape Town Airport and it is time for you to say goodbye to South Africa.
