Hike up Lion's Head
Overview
At 669m, this free-standing peak commands sensational and breathtaking views.
From the top take in the spectacular views of the City Bowl, Devil’s Peak, the famous front face of Table Mountain, the majestic Twelve Apostles, the Atlantic Seaboard from Camps Bay and Clifton to Sea Point and Green point, Table Bay and Robben Island.
This hike also serves as a great alternative for when Table Mountain is covered in cloud.
The route starts out from Signal Hill Road, and there’s enough parking right at the start. There are security guards that watch the cars.
Departure Times: 09:30 and 14:00 daily
The route starts up a gravel road and it curves and overlooks Camps Bay and you can see the green netting covered area where the paragliders set off from. The road then narrows into a path with stone steps.
This path curves right back around giving you an ever-changing view over Sea Point, Signal Hill and then the City Bowl.
There’s a short ladder to climb and then a bit further on you’ll reach a series of handholds with chains to help you up. It’s a fairly easy climb. If you have a fear of heights you can follow a path to the right that skips this part.
From here it’s on to the summit, which requires a bit of scrambling to get to the top of the sandstone peak. Then reward yourself with the most stunning views from the top.

Dress comfortable in hiking gear and bring a warm top with you. It often gets cold on top of the mountain.
